Backgammon For Winners by Bill Robertie

This is the first book I think I’ve ever read straight through in a single day. I started playing Backgammon for fun with a friend a while ago and always wanted to learn a bit more about the strategy. Bill Robertie has won the Mote Carlo World Backgammon Championship twice as well as several other prestigious Backgammon tournaments so he knows what he’s talking about.

What I like about this book is that it’s not especially long with a lot of the book being diagrams but Bill Robertie gets straight into the meat of what he is trying to teach, which is what I would call advanced beginner to intermediate strategy. I feel by reading this book it has advanced my game before I’ve even had the chance to put it into practice. There are a few example games which he talks through every move with very clear diagrams which are easy to follow. The chapter on the back game has opened my eyes to a type of game play in Backgammon I was completely unaware of.

I would recommend this as an excellent first book on Backgammon strategy for anyone who wants to learn a bit more than the basics.
